What is the Kombi Stream?
The best of both worlds: in a rapidly changing reality, the aim is to prepare young people in a variety of ways for the challenges ahead and to provide them with the broadest possible range of skills and the best qualifications so that the doors to the world are open to them, they can react spontaneously and see challenges as opportunities.
Multilingualism, academic excellence, working in and with different systems, personal responsibility and teamwork are central to this and are thus implemented in the combined course. With the simultaneous acquisition of two university entrance qualifications, graduates can study anywhere in the world.
The Kombi Stream is a unique combination of two secondary school systems. Based on an agreement between South Africa and Germany, learners attend subjects that are under South African administration and subjects that are under German administration in the upper school (grades 10-12) and sit their examinations in both areas at the same time. Upon successful completion, graduates are awarded both the South African NSC (IEB) and the German International Abitur (DIAP). They are therefore bilingual (German and English at native speaker level) and have two fully-fledged national qualifications.
In addition to "traditional" lessons, the combined branch focuses on self-directed learning in conjunction with the BYOD concept. A key component of this is the quarterly study days, on which all teachers are present and the pupils are free to decide whether and to whom they go. Lessons are taught by highly motivated and qualified teachers from Germany, South Africa and around the world in English or German, depending on the subject.
NSC Stream
The National Senior Certificate (NSC) is the qualification that is awarded to learners who successfully complete grade 12. To obtain the NSC qualification at DSJ a learner must take a minimum of 7 academic subjects. The NSC is administered by the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) which offers examinations for mostly private schools.
Why choose the NSC stream at the DSJ?
